In this work, we further investigate the generative capacity of numerical P systems as language generators. The families of languages generated by non-enzymatic, by enzymatic, and by purely enzymatic (all programs are enzymatic) numerical P systems working in the sequential mode are compared with the language families in the Chomsky hierarchy. Especially, a characterization of recursively enumerable languages is obtained by using purely enzymatic numerical P systems working in the sequential mode.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/fi-2016-1372","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,8,19]],"date-time":"2016-08-19T10:24:39Z","timestamp":1471602279000},"page":"485-509","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":8,"title":["On String Languages Generated by Sequential Numerical P Systems"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"145","author":[{"given":"Zhiqiang","family":"Zhang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Key Laboratory of Image Information Processing and Intelligent Control, School of Automation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, Hubei, China. {zhiqiangzhang,wutfhust_2013,lqpan}@hust.edu.cn"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Tingfang","family":"Wu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Key Laboratory of Image Information Processing and Intelligent Control, School of Automation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, Hubei, China. {zhiqiangzhang,wutfhust_2013,lqpan}@hust.edu.cn"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Linqiang","family":"Pan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Key Laboratory of Image Information Processing and Intelligent Control, School of Automation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, Hubei, China. {zhiqiangzhang,wutfhust_2013,lqpan}@hust.edu.cn"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2016,8,19]]},"container-title":["Fundamenta Informaticae"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/FI-2016-1372","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/FI-2016-1372","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,29]],"date-time":"2026-04-29T06:32:21Z","timestamp":1777444341000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/FI-2016-1372"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016,8,19]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2016,8,19]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/FI-2016-1372"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/fi-2016-1372","relation":{},"ISSN":["0169-2968","1875-8681"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0169-2968","type":"print"},{"value":"1875-8681","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016,8,19]]}}}
