In the here considered scenario, a mobile robot stands in a workspace with a set of potential targets to reach or interact with. When a human partner appears gesturing to the target, the robot must plan a collision-free trajectory to reach the goal. To solve this problem, a full-perception system composed of consecutive convolutional neural networks in parallel and processing stages is proposed for generating a collision-free trajectory according to the desired goal. This system is evaluated at each step in real environments and through several performance tests, proving to be a robust and fast system suitable for real-time applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/ica-200640","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,8,25]],"date-time":"2020-08-25T14:21:16Z","timestamp":1598365276000},"page":"191-205","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":30,"title":["Multi-stage deep learning perception system for mobile robots"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"28","author":[{"given":"Edgar","family":"Macias-Garcia","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Deysy","family":"Galeana-Perez","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Jesus","family":"Medrano-Hermosillo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Eduardo","family":"Bayro-Corrochano","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"179","reference":[{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"85","DOI":"10.1016\/j.neunet.2014.09.003","article-title":"Deep learning in neural networks: An overview","volume":"61","author":"Schmidhuber","year":"2015","journal-title":"Neural Networks"},{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref10","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"98","DOI":"10.1007\/s11263-014-0733-5","article-title":"The pascal visual object classes challenge: A retrospective","volume":"111","author":"Everingham","year":"2015","journal-title":"International Journal of Computer Vision"},{"issue":"2","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref13","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"100","DOI":"10.1109\/TSSC.1968.300136","article-title":"A formal basis for the heuristic determination of minimum cost paths","volume":"4","author":"Hart","year":"1968","journal-title":"IEEE Transactions on Systems Science and Cybernetics"},{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref14","first-page":"1929","article-title":"Dropout: A simple way to prevent neural networks from overfitting","volume":"15","author":"Srivastava","year":"2014","journal-title":"The Journal of Machine Learning Research"},{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref17","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"97","DOI":"10.3233\/ICA-180585","article-title":"Speech gestural interpretation by applying word representations in robotics","volume":"26","author":"Almagro","year":"2019","journal-title":"Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering"},{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref19","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"81","DOI":"10.3233\/ICA-170558","article-title":"Estimation of robot execution time for close proximity human-robot collaboration","volume":"25","author":"Pellegrinelli","year":"2018","journal-title":"Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering"},{"issue":"1","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref20","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"85","DOI":"10.3233\/ICA-180584","article-title":"DeepEye: Deep convolutional network for pupil detection in real environments","volume":"26","author":"Vera","year":"2019","journal-title":"Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering"},{"issue":"2","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref22","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"139","DOI":"10.3233\/ICA-180593","article-title":"A multi-aperture optical flow estimation method for an artificial compound eye","volume":"26","author":"Wu","year":"2019","journal-title":"Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering"},{"issue":"3","key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref23","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"213","DOI":"10.3233\/ICA-180564","article-title":"Geometry based three-dimensional image processing method for electronic cluster eye","volume":"25","author":"Wu","year":"2018","journal-title":"Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering"},{"key":"10.3233\/ICA-200640_ref24","unstructured":"ZED stereo camera, SN 4226 (Stereo Labs.
