The tools for this approach are fuzzy statistics and fuzzy probabilities. A necessary condition for this approach is the existence of statistical data for the project activity duration. The final findings are the fuzzy activity times (earliest\/latest start \u2013 earliest\/latest finish), the fuzzy float, the Criticality Degree both for each activity and for each path, a fuzzy probability for the activity duration to be in a certain time interval and a fuzzy probability for the project completion time to be in certain time interval. A numerical example is provided for thorough comprehension.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/ifs-120751","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,2]],"date-time":"2019-12-02T17:56:09Z","timestamp":1575309369000},"page":"577-587","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":8,"title":["Approaching activity duration in PERT by means of fuzzy sets theory and statistics"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"26","author":[{"given":"Konstantinos A.","family":"Chrysafis","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Section of Mathematics and Management, Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece"}]},{"given":"Basil K.","family":"Papadopoulos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Section of Mathematics and Management, Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]},"container-title":["Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/IFS-120751","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/IFS-120751","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,2,11]],"date-time":"2026-02-11T11:54:04Z","timestamp":1770810844000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/IFS-120751"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2014,2]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/IFS-120751"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/ifs-120751","relation":{},"ISSN":["1064-1246","1875-8967"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1064-1246","type":"print"},{"value":"1875-8967","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]}}}
