It usually employs disposable wax patterns and the quality of the wax patterns are reflected in the investment cast product. Keeping this in mind, integration of desirability function approach and fuzzy logic for the multi-response optimization of wax patterns made by the investment casting process has been conceptualized in the present study. The aforementioned method overcomes the limitation of the desirability function approach for multi-response optimization problems. The responses, linear shrinkage and surface roughness have been considered for simultaneous optimization. The input parameters considered are injection temperature, injection pressure and die temperature. A fuzzy model has been developed with desirability values of responses as inputs and multi-performance index (MPI) as output. The optimal levels of the process parameters are determined through the analysis of means of the MPIs. Confirmatory experiments are conducted to verify the optimal settings. The proposed method may be practically employed by the investment casters around the globe to increase the overall efficiency of the process and product.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/ifs-130809","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,2]],"date-time":"2019-12-02T18:00:33Z","timestamp":1575309633000},"page":"1235-1244","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":5,"title":["Modeling and parametric optimization of investment casting process by uniting desirability function approach and fuzzy logic"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"26","author":[{"given":"Sarojrani","family":"Pattnaik","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India"}]},{"given":"D.B.","family":"Karunakar","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India"}]},{"given":"P.K.","family":"Jha","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]},"container-title":["Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/IFS-130809","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/IFS-130809","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,2,11]],"date-time":"2026-02-11T12:58:56Z","timestamp":1770814736000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/IFS-130809"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"3","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2014,3]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/IFS-130809"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/ifs-130809","relation":{"is-cited-by":[{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/s00170-017-0559-8","asserted-by":"object"},{"id-type":"doi","id":"10.1007\/s40430-018-1246-x","asserted-by":"object"}]},"ISSN":["1064-1246","1875-8967"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1064-1246","type":"print"},{"value":"1875-8967","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2014,1]]}}}
