Efficient querying of RDF data is therefore of increasing importance. Preference queries and fuzzy queries are required for personalized queries, and have been extensively investigated in the context of databases. Focusing on SPARQL (Simple Protocol and RDF Query Language), we propose a fuzzy extension of SPARQL with preferences in this paper. First, we extend SPARQL with fuzzy sets by allowing the occurrence of fuzzy terms, fuzzy operators and fuzzy relations. Second, we introduce multi-dimensional preferences into the fuzzy SPARQL. Based on fuzzy set theory, we also propose a set of translation rules to convert the fuzzy SPARQL with preferences into crisp SPARQL. Finally we propose an effective scoring function to calculate the order of query results, which integrates the preferences and membership degrees. The proposed approach is evaluated with experiments as well.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/ifs-151745","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,1,15]],"date-time":"2016-01-15T12:21:30Z","timestamp":1452860490000},"page":"183-195","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":20,"title":["SPARQL queries on RDF with fuzzy constraints and preferences"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"30","author":[{"given":"Ruizhe","family":"Ma","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Xiangyue","family":"Jia","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Information Science and Engineering, Northeastern University, Shenyang, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jingwei","family":"Cheng","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Information Science and Engineering, Northeastern University, Shenyang, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Rafal A.","family":"Angryk","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2015,9,4]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_3_1_2_2","first-page":"456","article-title":"Answering Fuzzy Preference Queries over Data Web Services","author":"Amdouni S.","year":"2012","unstructured":"AmdouniS., BarhamgiM., BenslimaneD., HadjaliA., BenouaretK. and FaizR., Answering Fuzzy Preference Queries over Data Web Services, Proceedings of the 2012 International Conference on Web Engineering, (2012), pp. 456\u2013460.","journal-title":"Proceedings of the 2012 International Conference on Web Engineering"},{"key":"e_1_3_1_3_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"12","DOI":"10.1145\/2576231","article-title":"Web service compositions with fuzzy preferences: A graded dominance relationship-based approach","volume":"13","author":"Benouaret K.","year":"2014","unstructured":"BenouaretK., BenslimaneD., HadjaliA., BarhamgiM., MaamarZ. and ShengQ.Z., Web service compositions with fuzzy preferences: A graded dominance relationship-based approach, ACM Trans Internet Technology 13 (2014), 12.","journal-title":"ACM Trans Internet Technology"},{"key":"e_1_3_1_4_2","unstructured":"T.
