We develop a term,\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">platform politics<\/jats:italic>\n                    , and create a framework for identifying how parties use platforms to open or close intra-party decision-making. The framework is then applied to two institutionalised parties (\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">PSOE<\/jats:italic>\n                    and\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">PD<\/jats:italic>\n                    ) and to two movement-based parties (\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">Podemos<\/jats:italic>\n                    and\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">M5S<\/jats:italic>\n                    ) of the changing party systems of Spain and Italy.
