Many mechanisms have been proposed in each case but present CL and CO solutions are not conceptually related and there is a design gap between their definition and use. It is shown how CL and CO approaches appear as two specific cases of a much more general concept, the partial order connection (POC), which is presented here. A POC is an end-to-end connection that provides a partial order service where the objects can be delivered to the users in an order different from the transmitted one. Starting from this new concept, design principles of a general multimedia Transport connection are then introduced that allow the definition of a multimedia Quality of Service (QoS) consistent with general application requirements.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/jhs-1996-5207","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,3]],"date-time":"2019-12-03T09:52:38Z","timestamp":1575366758000},"page":"181-191","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["From the partial order connection concept to partial order multimedia transport connections"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Christophe","family":"Chassot","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"LAAS du CNRS 7, avenue du Colonel Roche, 31077 Toulouse, France, Tel.: (33) 6 133 6256, Fax: (33) 6 133 6411, E-mail: chassot,diaz,alozes@laas.fr, http:\/\/www.laas.fr\/laas.html"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Michel","family":"Diaz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"LAAS du CNRS 7, avenue du Colonel Roche, 31077 Toulouse, France, Tel.: (33) 6 133 6256, Fax: (33) 6 133 6411, E-mail: chassot,diaz,alozes@laas.fr, http:\/\/www.laas.fr\/laas.html"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Andre","family":"Lozes","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"LAAS du CNRS 7, avenue du Colonel Roche, 31077 Toulouse, France, Tel.: (33) 6 133 6256, Fax: (33) 6 133 6411, E-mail: chassot,diaz,alozes@laas.fr, http:\/\/www.laas.fr\/laas.html"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]},"container-title":["Journal of High Speed Networks"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5207","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5207","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,29]],"date-time":"2026-04-29T08:42:49Z","timestamp":1777452169000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5207"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1996,5]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/JHS-1996-5207"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/jhs-1996-5207","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-6801","1875-8940"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-6801","type":"print"},{"value":"1875-8940","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1996,1]]}}}
