The end-to-end problem is to ensure reliable message delivery across an unreliable network under the weakest possible guarantee from the network \u2013 that the sender and receiver are never separated by a cut of permanently failed links. In this paper we present the first self-stabilizing end-to-end protocol. Our solution has message complexities comparable with the best known non-stabilizing solutions. Our solution also has good stabilization time complexity: the time for the protocol to stabilize has the same complexity as the time the protocol takes to deliver a message. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/jhs-1996-5404","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,3]],"date-time":"2019-12-03T14:53:11Z","timestamp":1575384791000},"page":"365-381","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Self-stabilizing end-to-end communication"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Baruch","family":"Awerbuch","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA"}]},{"given":"Boaz","family":"Patt-Shamir","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA"}]},{"given":"George","family":"Varghese","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering and Applied Science, Washington University in St Louis, Campus Box 1115, One Brookings Drive, St Louis, Missouri 63130-4899, USA"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[1996,1,1]]},"container-title":["Journal of High Speed Networks"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5404","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5404","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,11]],"date-time":"2025-03-11T06:22:10Z","timestamp":1741674130000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.3233\/JHS-1996-5404"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1996,1,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1996,11]]}},"alternative-id":["10.3233\/JHS-1996-5404"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/jhs-1996-5404","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-6801","1875-8940"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"0926-6801"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1875-8940"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1996,1,1]]}}}
