Patients with a history of COPD exacerbations were asked to use a VR app for home-based PR and then undergo semi-structured qualitative interviews to provide their feedback on using the VR app. The mean age of the patients was 72\u00b19 years ranging between 55 and 84 years old. The qualitative data were analyzed using a deductive thematic analysis. Findings from this study indicated the high acceptability and usability of the VR-based system for engaging in a PR program. This study offers a thorough examination of patient perceptions while utilizing a VR-based technology to facilitate access to PR. Future development and deployment of a patient-centered VR-based system will consider patient insights and suggestions to support COPD self-management according to patient requirements, preferences, and expectations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/shti230517","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,6,30]],"date-time":"2023-06-30T07:53:36Z","timestamp":1688111616000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":12,"title":["Patient Perceptions of a Virtual Reality-Based System for Pulmonary Rehabilitation: A Qualitative Analysis"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5872-9078","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Aileen S.","family":"Gabriel","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Te-Yi","family":"Tsai","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Taulant","family":"Xhakli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Joseph","family":"Finkelstein","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","Healthcare Transformation with Informatics and Artificial Intelligence"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI230517","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2023,6,30]],"date-time":"2023-06-30T07:53:37Z","timestamp":1688111617000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI230517"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2023,6,29]]},"ISBN":["9781643684000","9781643684017"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/shti230517","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630","1879-8365"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8365","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2023,6,29]]}}}
