These processes can be automated using artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies, including applying natural language processing (NLP) to clinical reports. However, developing a practically useful automated IFI surveillance tool requires consideration of the implementation context. We employed the Design Thinking Framework (DTF) to focus on the needs of end users of the tool to ensure sustained user engagement and enable its prospective validation. DTF allowed iterative generation of ideas and refinement of the final digital health solution. We believe this approach is key to increasing the likelihood that the solution will be implemented in clinical practice.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/shti231241","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]],"date-time":"2024-01-25T10:29:47Z","timestamp":1706178587000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Designing a Digital Health Solution: A Platform for Automated Surveillance of Fungal Infection"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2988-1676","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Anna","family":"Khanina","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"National Centre for Infections in Cancer, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"Department of Infectious Diseases, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"Sir Peter MacCallum Cancer Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1032-4650","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Vlada","family":"Rozova","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"National Centre for Infections in Cancer, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"School of Computing Technologies, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"School of Computing and Information Systems, University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sri","family":"Elkins","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Guidance Group, Royal Melbourne Hospital at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, Melbourne, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-8661-1544","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Karin","family":"Verspoor","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computing Technologies, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"School of Computing and Information Systems, University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7400-232X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Karin","family":"Thursky","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"National Centre for Infections in Cancer, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"Department of Infectious Diseases, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"Sir Peter MacCallum Cancer Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia"},{"name":"Guidance Group, Royal Melbourne Hospital at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, Melbourne, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","MEDINFO 2023 \u2014 The Future Is Accessible"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI231241","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]],"date-time":"2024-01-25T10:29:49Z","timestamp":1706178589000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI231241"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]]},"ISBN":["9781643684567","9781643684574"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/shti231241","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630","1879-8365"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8365","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]]}}}
