Two AI-based components embedded into the telehealth platform were evaluated on retinal images collected from 328 unique patients: an image quality alert system and a diabetic retinopathy detection system. Compared to ophthalmologists, at an individual image level, the image quality detection algorithm was correct 72% of the time, and 85% accurate at a patient level. The retinopathy detection algorithm was correct 85% accurate at an individual image level, and 87% accurate at a patient level. This evaluation provides assurances for future service models using AI to complement and support decisions of eye health assessment teams.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3233\/shti231259","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]],"date-time":"2024-01-25T10:31:06Z","timestamp":1706178666000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Automated Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis for Improved Clinical Decision Support"],"prefix":"10.3233","author":[{"given":"Justin","family":"Boyle","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"CSIRO, Australian E-Health Research Centre"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Janardhan","family":"Vignarajan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"CSIRO, Australian E-Health Research Centre"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sajib","family":"Saha","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"CSIRO, Australian E-Health Research Centre"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"7437","container-title":["Studies in Health Technology and Informatics","MEDINFO 2023 \u2014 The Future Is Accessible"],"original-title":[],"link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/pdf\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI231259","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]],"date-time":"2024-01-25T10:31:08Z","timestamp":1706178668000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/ebooks.iospress.nl\/doi\/10.3233\/SHTI231259"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]]},"ISBN":["9781643684567","9781643684574"],"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3233\/shti231259","relation":{},"ISSN":["0926-9630","1879-8365"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0926-9630","type":"print"},{"value":"1879-8365","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,25]]}}}
