Drawing on the theory of cumulative advantages and disadvantages we used biographical research, namely narrative interviews with men from different educational background: men with a very low educational background and men with a medium\/high educational background. Our results show the influence of educational background in the life course, and how it can contribute to accumulation of advantages\/disadvantages that explain their biographies and the very different situations in which they live today.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3384\/rela.2000-7426.rela20199","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,10,10]],"date-time":"2019-10-10T09:44:29Z","timestamp":1570700669000},"page":"275-289","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Education matters: cumulative advantages and disadvantages amongst Portuguese older men"],"prefix":"10.3384","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Ant\u00f3nio","family":"Fragoso","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Sandra T.","family":"Valadas","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Carla","family":"Vilhena","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"1959","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,10,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref0","unstructured":"Alheit, P.
