Psychol."],"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title>Introduction<\/jats:title><jats:p>The COVID-19 pandemic held considerable health-related outcomes worldwide, including mental health challenges, with elevated risk of psychiatric sequelae.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods<\/jats:title><jats:p>This study aimed to test the longitudinal (1\u2009year) predictive role of psychosocial factors on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depressive symptoms in SARS-CoV-2 survivors (<jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u2009209 at T1; <jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u200961; attrition rate 70.83%), through Pearson\u2019s correlation analyses and longitudinal multiple regression analyses. Participants (age <jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u200935.4, <jats:italic>SD<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u200910.1) completed online self-report questionnaires of psychosocial variables, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>Depression and anxiety symptoms were increased, and 42% of survivors presented clinically meaningful PTSD symptoms. PTSD symptoms were longitudinally predicted by having children (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u20090.32, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.01), number of recent major life events (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u20090.34, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.01), and psychological flexibility (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u2009\u22120.36, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.01). Number of major life events (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u20090.29, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.05) and psychological flexibility (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u2009\u22120.29, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.05) predicted anxiety. Number of recent major life events (<jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u20090.32, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&amp;lt;\u20090.01) was the sole predictor of depressive symptoms.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Discussion<\/jats:title><jats:p>Psychosocial variables contribute to the long-term harmful effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on psychopathological symptoms. These results suggest that, during the pandemic, mental health was impacted by both socio-contextual factors and individual self-regulatory skills, namely the ability to respond flexibily to contextual cues and guide behavior according to the direct experience.
