To our knowledge, however, there have been few efforts to fully realize the potential of deep neural networks in cross-domain product review sentiment classification. In this paper, we propose a two-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) for cross-domain product review sentiment classification (LM-CNN-LB). Transfer learning research into product review sentiment classification based on deep neural networks has been limited by the lack of a large-scale corpus; we sought to remedy this problem using a large-scale auxiliary cross-domain dataset collected from Amazon product reviews. Our proposed framework exhibits the dramatic transferability of deep neural networks for cross-domain product review sentiment classification and achieves state-of-the-art performance. The framework also outperforms complex engineered features used with a non-deep neural network method. The experiments demonstrate that introducing large-scale data from similar domains is an effective way to resolve the lack of training data. The LM-CNN-LB trained on the multi-source related domain dataset outperformed the one trained on a single similar domain.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/a10030081","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,20]],"date-time":"2017-07-20T04:28:26Z","timestamp":1500524906000},"page":"81","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":16,"title":["Low-Resource Cross-Domain Product Review Sentiment Classification Based on a CNN with an Auxiliary Large-Scale Corpus"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"10","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3675-1020","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Xiaocong","family":"Wei","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"},{"name":"School of Software Engineering, Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Dalian 116044, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7191-2280","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Hongfei","family":"Lin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7827-3143","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yuhai","family":"Yu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Liang","family":"Yang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,7,19]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"211","DOI":"10.1007\/s12559-014-9302-z","article-title":"Sentilo: Frame-based sentiment analysis","volume":"7","author":"Recupero","year":"2015","journal-title":"Cognit.
