Although wireless technologies have gained ground in industrial monitoring, their adoption in control applications remains limited due to concerns around reliability and timing accuracy. This study proposes a practical, low-cost solution based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, leveraging the IEEE 802.15.4-2020 standard in Time-Slotted Channel-Hopping (TSCH) mode. A custom time management algorithm is developed and implemented on STM32 microcontrollers paired with AT86RF212B transceivers. The proposed system ensures a sub-millisecond synchronization drift across nodes by dividing communication into a structured slot frame and implementing precise scheduling and enhanced beacon-based synchronization. Validation is performed through experimental setups monitored with logic analyzers, demonstrating a time drift consistently below 600 microseconds. The results confirm the feasibility of using synchronized wireless nodes for real-time industrial control tasks, suggesting that further improvements in hardware precision could enable even tighter synchronization and broader applicability in fast and critical processes.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/a18070382","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,24]],"date-time":"2025-06-24T06:49:38Z","timestamp":1750747778000},"page":"382","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Time Management in Wireless Sensor Networks for Industrial Process Control"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"18","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1054-2674","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Andrei","family":"Rusu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Automation Department, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Petru","family":"Dobra","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Automation Department, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2499-9982","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mihai","family":"Hulea","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Automation Department, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5540-098X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Radu","family":"Miron","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Automation Department, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,24]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"(2025, May 27).
