Many studies have been performed, but most existing methods focus on either only textual content or only visual content. In this paper, we utilize deep learning models in a convolutional neural network (CNN) to analyze the sentiment in Chinese microblogs from both textual and visual content. We first train a CNN on top of pre-trained word vectors for textual sentiment analysis and employ a deep convolutional neural network (DNN) with generalized dropout for visual sentiment analysis. We then evaluate our sentiment prediction framework on a dataset collected from a famous Chinese social media network (Sina Weibo) that includes text and related images and demonstrate state-of-the-art results on this Chinese sentiment analysis benchmark.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/a9020041","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2016,6,23]],"date-time":"2016-06-23T00:43:08Z","timestamp":1466642588000},"page":"41","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":124,"title":["Visual and Textual Sentiment Analysis of a Microblog Using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"9","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7827-3143","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yuhai","family":"Yu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"},{"name":"School of Computer Science & Engineering, Dalian Nationalities University, Dalian 116600, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7191-2280","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Hongfei","family":"Lin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jiana","family":"Meng","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science & Engineering, Dalian Nationalities University, Dalian 116600, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Zhehuan","family":"Zhao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Computer Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2016,6,21]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"102","DOI":"10.1109\/MIS.2016.31","article-title":"Affective computing and sentiment analysis","volume":"31","author":"Cambria","year":"2016","journal-title":"IEEE Intell.
