The paper discusses the connection between autopoiesis and eigenforms and a variety of different perspectives and examples. The paper puts forward original philosophical reflections and generalizations about its various conclusions concerning specific examples, with the aim of contributing to a unified way of understanding (formal models of) living systems within the context of natural sciences, and to see the role of such systems and the formation of information from the point of view of analogs of biological construction. To this end, we pay attention to models for fixed points, self-reference and self-replication in formal systems and in the description of biological systems.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/computation11120247","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,5]],"date-time":"2023-12-05T08:09:17Z","timestamp":1701763757000},"page":"247","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Autopoiesis and Eigenform"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"11","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4135-8685","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Louis H.","family":"Kauffman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Mathematics Department, University of Illinois at Chicago, 851 South Morgan Street, Chicago, IL 60607-7045, USA"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,12,5]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"187","DOI":"10.1016\/0303-2647(74)90031-8","article-title":"Autopoiesis: The Organization of Living Systems, Its Characterization and a Model","volume":"5","author":"Maturana","year":"1974","journal-title":"Biosystems"},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"129","DOI":"10.1108\/03684920510575780","article-title":"Eigenform","volume":"Volume 34","author":"Kauffman","year":"2005","journal-title":"Kybernetes"},{"key":"ref_3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"von Foerster, H.
