In the linear response regime, we derive the stability condition, as well as the accuracy of TRBOMD for computing physical properties, such as the phonon frequency obtained from the molecular dynamics simulation. We connect and compare TRBOMD with Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics in terms of accuracy and stability. We further discuss the accuracy of TRBOMD beyond the linear response regime for non-equilibrium dynamics of nuclei. Our results are demonstrated through numerical experiments using a simplified one-dimensional model for Kohn-Sham density functional theory.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/e16010110","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2013,12,27]],"date-time":"2013-12-27T12:54:46Z","timestamp":1388148886000},"page":"110-137","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":23,"title":["Analysis of Time Reversible Born-Oppenheimer Molecular Dynamics"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"16","author":[{"given":"Lin","family":"Lin","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Computational Research Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA 94720, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jianfeng","family":"Lu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mathematics and Department of Physics, Duke University, Box 90320, Durham, NC 27708, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sihong","family":"Shao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"LMAM and School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2013,12,27]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","first-page":"301","article-title":"Ab initio molecular dynamics: Theory and implementation","volume":"1","author":"Marx","year":"2000","journal-title":"Mod.
