In this paper, we investigate two variants of the q-voter model with independence. Following the original q-voter model, in the first one, among the q members of the influence group, each given agent can be selected more than once. In the other variant, the repetitions of agents are explicitly forbidden. The models are analyzed by means of Monte Carlo simulations and via analytical approximations. The impact of repetitions on the dynamics of the model for different parameter ranges is discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/e26020132","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,31]],"date-time":"2024-01-31T09:41:59Z","timestamp":1706694119000},"page":"132","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":5,"title":["Composition of the Influence Group in the q-Voter Model and Its Impact on the Dynamics of Opinions"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"26","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1141-5095","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tomasz","family":"Weron","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Applied Mathematics, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, 50-370 Wroclaw, Poland"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9664-7949","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Piotr","family":"Nyczka","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Applied Mathematics, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, 50-370 Wroclaw, Poland"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6992-3634","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Janusz","family":"Szwabi\u0144ski","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Applied Mathematics, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, 50-370 Wroclaw, Poland"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,1,31]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"17599","DOI":"10.1073\/pnas.0704916104","article-title":"Novelty and collective attention","volume":"104","author":"Wu","year":"2007","journal-title":"Proc.
