It is based on the variational principle, borrowed from statistical physics. It is shown that inequivalent generalised entropy functions lead to distinct generalised exponential families. The well-known result that the inequality of Cram\u00b4er and Rao becomes an equality in the case of an exponential family can be generalised. However, this requires the introduction of escort probabilities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/entropy-e10030131","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,7,30]],"date-time":"2008-07-30T04:31:41Z","timestamp":1217392301000},"page":"131-149","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":65,"title":["Generalised Exponential Families and Associated Entropy Functions"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Jan","family":"Naudts","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Physics, University of Antwerpen, Groenenborgerlaan 171, 2020 Antwerpen, Belgium"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2008,7,16]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"57","DOI":"10.1016\/0034-4877(86)90067-4","article-title":"Quasi-entropies for finite quantum systems","volume":"23","author":"Petz","year":"1986","journal-title":"Rep.
