All such expressions lack a term to account for the effect of the entropy of mixing on the glass transition. An entropy based analysis for the glass transition of amorphous mixtures is presented. The treatment yields an explicit mixing term in the expression for the glass transition temperature of a mixture. The obtained expression reduces to the Couchman-Karasz equation in the limiting case where the contribution of the entropy of mixing approaches zero. Equivalent expressions are obtained for the glass transition temperature of a mixture of two glass formers as for the effect of a plasticizing liquid diluent on the glass transition temperature of an amorphous material.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/entropy-e10030207","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,8,26]],"date-time":"2008-08-26T04:04:06Z","timestamp":1219723446000},"page":"207-223","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":80,"title":["Entropy of Mixing and the Glass Transition of Amorphous Mixtures"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Rodolfo","family":"Pinal","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, Purdue University, 575 Stadium Mall Drive, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, USA"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2008,8,26]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"493","DOI":"10.1002\/jctb.5010020901","article-title":"Ideal copolymers and the second-order transitions of synthetic rubbers.
