To address these issues, there is a critical need for a decentralized framework that empowers users with self-sovereignty over their subscription information while maintaining trust and privacy among network entities. This article presents a novel framework to enable Self-Sovereign Federated NextG (SSFXG) wireless communication networks. The SSFXG framework separates identity management from the service management layer typically controlled by network operators to foster interoperability functionalities with enhanced privacy and trace-resistant assurances in the NextG landscape. The proposed model relies on blockchain technology as an infrastructure to enable single-authority-free service provisioning and boost mutual trust among federated network components. Further, the SSFXG framework facilitates subscribers\u2019 self-sovereignty over their subscription information while ensuring anonymity and enhanced privacy preservation, avoiding unnecessary network activity monitoring or tracking. Preliminary evaluations demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed framework, making it a promising solution for advancing secure and interoperable NextG wireless networks.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/info16030159","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,20]],"date-time":"2025-02-20T04:53:39Z","timestamp":1740027219000},"page":"159","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Decentralized Trace-Resistant Self-Sovereign Service Provisioning for Next-Generation Federated Wireless Networks"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"16","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0317-5733","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Efat","family":"Fathalla","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, VA 24450, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9386-4726","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mohamed","family":"Azab","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer and Information Sciences, Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, VA 24450, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,20]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"98","DOI":"10.1109\/MCOM.005.2200074","article-title":"The standardization of 5G-Advanced in 3GPP","volume":"60","author":"Chen","year":"2022","journal-title":"IEEE Commun.
