Several collaborations have already demonstrated the possibility of defects detection (delamination, salts) in murals paintings using stimulated infrared thermography. One of the difficulties encountered with infrared thermography applied to the analysis of works of art is the remanence of the pictorial layer. This difficulty can sometimes induce detection artifacts and false positives. A method of thermograms post-processing called PPT (pulse phase thermography) is described. The possibilities offered by the PPT in terms of reducing the optical effects associated with the pictorial layer are highlighted first with a simulation, and then through experiments. This approach can significantly improve the study of painted works of art such as wall paintings.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/jimaging5090072","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,29]],"date-time":"2019-08-29T11:26:22Z","timestamp":1567077982000},"page":"72","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":15,"title":["Improvement of the Non-Destructive Testing of Heritage Mural Paintings Using Stimulated Infrared Thermography and Frequency Image Processing"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"5","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4880-8792","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Kamel","family":"Mouhoubi","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"ITHEMM, UFR Sciences Exactes et Naturelles, BP 1039, 51687 Reims CEDEX 02, France"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Vincent","family":"Detalle","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"C2RMF, 14 Quai Fran\u00e7ois Mitterrand, 75001 Paris, France"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2601-4836","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jean-Marc","family":"Vallet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"CICRP, 21 rue Guibal, 13003 Marseille, France"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jean-Luc","family":"Bodnar","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"ITHEMM, UFR Sciences Exactes et Naturelles, BP 1039, 51687 Reims CEDEX 02, France"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,8,29]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"196","DOI":"10.1016\/j.culher.2009.05.001","article-title":"Integrated reflectography and thermography for wooden paintings diagnostics","volume":"11","author":"Ambrosini","year":"2010","journal-title":"J.
