Public displays and immersive virtual environments have the potential to address this issue, enhance citizen engagement and improve the public consultation process, overall. In this paper, we investigate how people would interact with a large display showing urban planning content. We conducted an elicitation study with a large immersive display, where we asked participants (N = 28) to produce gestures to vote and comment on urban planning material. Our results suggest that the phone interaction modality may be more suitable than the hand interaction modality for voting and commenting on large interactive displays. Our findings may inform the design of interactions for large immersive displays, in particular, those showing urban planning content.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/mti3020031","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,5,13]],"date-time":"2019-05-13T03:57:07Z","timestamp":1557719827000},"page":"31","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["User-Generated Gestures for Voting and Commenting on Immersive Displays in Urban Planning"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"3","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6237-2905","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Guiying","family":"Du","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Geoinformatics, University of Muenster, 48149 Muenster, Germany"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5087-8776","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Auriol","family":"Degbelo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Geoinformatics, University of Muenster, 48149 Muenster, Germany"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4199-8976","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Christian","family":"Kray","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Geoinformatics, University of Muenster, 48149 Muenster, Germany"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,5,7]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Kaviani, N., Finke, M., Fels, S., Lea, R., and Wang, H.
