The dual-GEO CTH algorithm estimates CTH based on the parallax, which is the difference in the apparent position of clouds observed from two GEO satellites simultaneously. The dual-GEO CTH algorithm consists of four major procedures: (1) image remapping, (2) image matching, (3) CTH calculation, and (4) quality control. The retrieved CTHs were compared with other satellite CTHs from the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) and the Cloud-Profiling Radar (CPR), on three occasions. Considering the geometric configuration and footprint sizes of the two GEO satellites, the theoretical accuracy of the dual-GEO CTH algorithm is estimated as \u00b10.93 km. The comparisons show that the retrieval accuracy generally tends to fall within the theoretical accuracy range. As the dual-GEO CTH algorithm is based on parallax, it could be easily applied for the estimation of the height of any elevated feature in various fields.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/rs12121953","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,6,17]],"date-time":"2020-06-17T13:11:32Z","timestamp":1592399492000},"page":"1953","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":15,"title":["A Cloud Top-Height Retrieval Algorithm Using Simultaneous Observations from the Himawari-8 and FY-2E Satellites"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"12","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0503-4245","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jonghyuk","family":"Lee","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Yonsei University, Seoul 03722, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3936-5504","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Dong-Bin","family":"Shin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Yonsei University, Seoul 03722, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5330-9456","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Chu-Yong","family":"Chung","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"National Institute of Meteorological Science, Korea Meteorological Administration, Jincheon 27803, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"JaeGwan","family":"Kim","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"National Meteorological Satellite Center, Korea Meteorological Administration, Jeju 63568, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,6,17]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Salby, M.L.
