At present, the concept and delineation of urban boundaries do not follow a unified method or standard. However, many scholars have made use of multi-source remote sensing images of various scales and social auxiliary data such as point of interest (POI) data to achieve large-scale, high-resolution, and high-precision land cover mapping and impermeable water surface mapping. The accuracy of small- and medium-scale urban boundary mapping has not been improved to an obvious extent. This study uses multi-temporal Sentinel-2 high-resolution images and POI data that can reflect detailed features of human activities to extract multi-dimensional features and use random forests and mathematical morphology to map the urban boundaries of the city of Zhengzhou. The research results show that: (1) the urban construction land extraction model established with multi-dimensional features has a great improvement in accuracy; (2) when the training sample accounts for 65% of the sample data set, the urban construction land extraction model has the highest accuracy, reaching 96.25%, and the Kappa coefficient is 0.93; (3) the optimized boundary of structural elements with a size of 13 \u00d7 13 is selected, which is in good agreement in terms of scope and location with the boundary of FROM-GLC10 (Zhengzhou) and visual interpretations. The results from the urban boundary delineation in this paper can be used as an important database for detailed basic land use mapping within cities. Moreover, the method in this paper has some reference value for other cities in terms of delineating urban boundaries.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/rs12244103","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,12,16]],"date-time":"2020-12-16T09:21:15Z","timestamp":1608110475000},"page":"4103","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":17,"title":["Mapping an Urban Boundary Based on Multi-Temporal Sentinel-2 and POI Data: A Case Study of Zhengzhou City"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"12","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4020-8960","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Zhe","family":"Wang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Environment and Planning, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of Geospatial Technology for Middle and Lower Yellow River Regions, Ministry of Education, Kaifeng 475004, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6679-9543","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Haiying","family":"Wang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Environment and Planning, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of Geospatial Technology for Middle and Lower Yellow River Regions, Ministry of Education, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Institute of Urban Big Data, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Fen","family":"Qin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Environment and Planning, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of Geospatial Technology for Middle and Lower Yellow River Regions, Ministry of Education, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Henan Industrial Technology Academy of Spatio-Temporal Big Data, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9993-3382","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Zhigang","family":"Han","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Environment and Planning, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of Geospatial Technology for Middle and Lower Yellow River Regions, Ministry of Education, Kaifeng 475004, China"},{"name":"Henan Industrial Technology Academy of Spatio-Temporal Big Data, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Changhong","family":"Miao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,12,16]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"Department of Urban Surveys National Bureau of Statistics of China (2018).
