However, current works focused on the empirical relationship between SIF and plant transpiration (T), while the mechanistic linkage between them has not been fully explored. Two mechanism methods were developed to estimate T via SIF, namely the water-use efficiency (WUE) method and conductance method based on the carbon\u2013water coupling framework. The T estimated by these two methods was compared with T partitioned from eddy covariance instrument measured evapotranspiration at four different sites. Both methods showed good performance at the hourly (R2 = 0.57 for the WUE method and 0.67 for the conductance method) and daily scales (R2 = 0.67 for the WUE method and 0.78 for the conductance method). The developed mechanism methods provide theoretical support and have a great potential basis for deriving ecosystem T by satellite SIF observations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/rs13040804","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,2,22]],"date-time":"2021-02-22T20:42:51Z","timestamp":1614026571000},"page":"804","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":26,"title":["Modeling Transpiration with Sun-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence Observations via Carbon-Water Coupling Methods"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"13","author":[{"given":"Huaize","family":"Feng","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1744-8974","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tongren","family":"Xu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7987-037X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Liangyun","family":"Liu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Key Laboratory of Digital Earth Science, Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100094, China"}]},{"given":"Sha","family":"Zhou","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, Palisades, NY 10027, USA"}]},{"given":"Jingxue","family":"Zhao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"given":"Shaomin","family":"Liu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"given":"Ziwei","family":"Xu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1288-8428","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Kebiao","family":"Mao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing 100081, China"}]},{"given":"Xinlei","family":"He","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"given":"Zhongli","family":"Zhu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8295-8973","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Linna","family":"Chai","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Faculty of Geographical Science, School of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,2,22]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"175","DOI":"10.1126\/science.aaa5931","article-title":"Hydrologic connectivity constrains partitioning of global terrestrial water fluxes","volume":"349","author":"Good","year":"2015","journal-title":"Science"},{"key":"ref_2","first-page":"347","article-title":"Terrestrial water fluxes dominated by transpiration","volume":"496","author":"Jasechko","year":"2013","journal-title":"Nat.
