In the method, we explore a novel way of transferring street characteristics to semantically segment street-level panoramic images of Beijing by using DeepLabv3+. Based on the segmentation results, the shading situation is further estimated by projecting the path of the sun in a day onto the semantically segmented fisheye photos and applying our firstly defined shading coverage index formula. Experimental results show that in several randomly selected sampling regions in Beijing, our method can successfully detect more than 83% of the shading changes compared to the ground truth. The results of this method contribute to the study of urban livability and the evaluation of human life comfort. The quantitative evaluation method of the shading coverage index proposed in this research has certain promotion significance and can be applied to shading-related research in other cities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/rs14081796","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,4,9]],"date-time":"2022-04-09T05:13:08Z","timestamp":1649481188000},"page":"1796","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["Deep Feature Migration for Real-Time Mapping of Urban Street Shading Coverage Index Based on Street-Level Panorama Images"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"14","author":[{"given":"Ning","family":"Yue","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0076-7311","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Zhenxin","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of 3D Information Acquisition and Application, MOE, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2487-8312","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Shan","family":"Jiang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"}]},{"given":"Siyun","family":"Chen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"},{"name":"Key Laboratory of 3D Information Acquisition and Application, MOE, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,4,8]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"Jiang, C., and Ward, M.O.
