An assessment is made of the information content of the measured winds as a function of the spatial resolution of the imager. An existing algorithm is used which estimates the maximum surface air pressure depression in the hurricane eye from the maximum wind speed. High resolution numerical model wind fields from Hurricane Frances 2004 are convolved with various HIRAD antenna spatial filters to observe the impact of the antenna design on the central pressure depression in the eye that can be deduced from it.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/rs2030665","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2010,3,1]],"date-time":"2010-03-01T11:29:23Z","timestamp":1267442963000},"page":"665-672","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Impact of Spatial Resolution on Wind Field Derived Estimates of Air Pressure Depression in the Hurricane Eye"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Ruba","family":"Amarin","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Central Florida Remote Sensing Lab., School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Central Florida, Box-162450, Orlando, FL 32816-2450, USA"}]},{"given":"Christopher","family":"Ruf","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Central Florida Remote Sensing Lab., School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Central Florida, Box-162450, Orlando, FL 32816-2450, USA"}]},{"given":"Linwood","family":"Jones","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Central Florida Remote Sensing Lab., School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Central Florida, Box-162450, Orlando, FL 32816-2450, USA"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,3,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"3070","DOI":"10.1175\/MWR3454.1","article-title":"Hurricane Surface Wind Measurements from an Operational Stepped Frequency Microwave Radiometer","volume":"135","author":"Uhlhorn","year":"2007","journal-title":"Mon.
