Performance of these transducers has been investigated by analyzing the sources and effects of on-chip parasitic capacitances on the insertion-loss of the transducers. Modeling and experimental studies showed that on-chip parasitic capacitances degraded the performance of the transducers and an improved method of fabrication was suggested and new devices were built. New devices developed with minimal parasitic effects were shown to improve the performance significantly. A 1-mm aperture PVDF device developed with minimal parasitic effects has resulted in a reduction of insertion loss of 21 dB compared with devices fabricated using a previous method.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s100908740","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2010,9,27]],"date-time":"2010-09-27T11:23:33Z","timestamp":1285586613000},"page":"8740-8750","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":26,"title":["Design and Analysis of MEMS Based PVDF Ultrasonic Transducers for Vascular Imaging"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Chaitanya","family":"Chandrana","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of BioMedical Engineering, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA"},{"name":"Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Cleveland State Univeristy, Cleveland, OH, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"James","family":"Talman","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Offboard Countermeasures Branch, United States Naval Research Laboratory, Wahington, DC, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Tao","family":"Pan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of BioMedical Engineering, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Shuvo","family":"Roy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Bioenginering & Therapeutic Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, CA, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Aaron","family":"Fleischman","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of BioMedical Engineering, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,9,21]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"1","DOI":"10.1016\/S0301-5629(99)00096-4","article-title":"Advances in Ultrasound Biomicroscopy","volume":"26","author":"Foster","year":"2000","journal-title":"Ultrasound Med.
