The communication is based on an audio interface that relies on the exchange of audio tones, allowing sensors to be read and actuators to be controlled. As an application example, the presented technique is used to build a low cost mobile robot, but the system can also be used in a variety of mechatronics applications and sensor networks, where smartphones are the basic building blocks.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s120201572","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,2,6]],"date-time":"2012-02-06T11:20:07Z","timestamp":1328527207000},"page":"1572-1593","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["Method for Reading Sensors and Controlling Actuators Using Audio Interfaces of Mobile Devices"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"12","author":[{"given":"Rafael V.","family":"Aroca","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"NatalNet Laboratory, Technology Center, Computing Engineering and Automation Department, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, RN 59078-900, Brazil"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Aquiles F.","family":"Burlamaqui","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NatalNet Laboratory, Technology Center, Computing Engineering and Automation Department, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, RN 59078-900, Brazil"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Luiz M.
