Imaging-based and spectrometry-based detection techniques have been widely explored via different approaches. Combined with the smartphone, imaging-based and spectrometry-based methods are currently used to investigate a wide range of molecular properties in chemical and biological science for biosensing and diagnostics. Imaging techniques based on smartphone-based microscopes are utilized to capture microscale analysts, while spectrometry-based techniques are used to probe reactions or changes of molecules. Here, we critically review the most recent progress in imaging-based and spectrometry-based smartphone-integrated platforms that have been developed for chemical experiments and biological diagnosis. We focus on the analytical performance and the complexity for implementation of the platforms.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s17112449","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,10,25]],"date-time":"2017-10-25T11:13:27Z","timestamp":1508930007000},"page":"2449","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":143,"title":["Recent Progress in Optical Biosensors Based on Smartphone Platforms"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"17","author":[{"given":"Zhaoxin","family":"Geng","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Information Engineering, Minzu University of China, Beijing 100081, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Xiong","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Information Engineering, Minzu University of China, Beijing 100081, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Zhiyuan","family":"Fan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory for Integrated Optoelectronics, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100083, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Xiaoqing","family":"Lv","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory for Integrated Optoelectronics, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100083, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Yue","family":"Su","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory for Integrated Optoelectronics, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100083, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Hongda","family":"Chen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"State Key Laboratory for Integrated Optoelectronics, Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100083, China"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,10,25]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"104","DOI":"10.1039\/C6LC01321J","article-title":"Smartphone based hand-held quantitative phase microscope using the transport of intensity equation method","volume":"17","author":"Meng","year":"2017","journal-title":"Lab Chip"},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"748","DOI":"10.1016\/j.snb.2017.02.149","article-title":"Passive and wireless near field communication tag sensors for biochemical sensing with smartphone","volume":"246","author":"Xu","year":"2017","journal-title":"Sens.
