We test the source-drain current upon changes in the concentration of humidity, ethanol, and NO2, using synthetic air as a gas carrier, moving a step forward towards mimicking operational environmental conditions. The supported architecture shows higher response in the mid humidity range (50% relative humidity), with shorter response and recovery times and lower detection limit with respect to the suspended nanowire. These experimental pieces of evidence indicate a minor role of the InAs\/SiO2 contact area; hence, there is no need for suspended nanostructures to improve the sensing performance. Moreover, the sensing capability of single InAs nanowires for detection of NO2 and ethanol in the ambient atmosphere is reported and discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s19132994","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,8]],"date-time":"2019-07-08T03:01:31Z","timestamp":1562554891000},"page":"2994","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":27,"title":["Conductometric Sensing with Individual InAs Nanowires"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"19","author":[{"given":"Valeria","family":"Demontis","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3907-5275","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mirko","family":"Rocci","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0374-9610","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Maurizio","family":"Donarelli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Information Engineering, University of Brescia, Via Branze 38, 25123 Brescia, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9236-5124","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Rishi","family":"Maiti","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of ECE, George Washington University, Washington, DC 20052, USA (current address)"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9709-5207","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Valentina","family":"Zannier","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"given":"Fabio","family":"Beltram","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-6242-9417","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lucia","family":"Sorba","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"given":"Stefano","family":"Roddaro","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"given":"Francesco","family":"Rossella","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEST, Scuola Normale Superiore and Istituto Nanoscienze-CNR, Piazza San Silvestro 12, 56127 Pisa, Italy"}]},{"given":"Camilla","family":"Baratto","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Information Engineering, University of Brescia, Via Branze 38, 25123 Brescia, Italy"},{"name":"CNR-INO Brescia, Via Branze 45, 25123 Brescia, Italy"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,7]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"363","DOI":"10.1016\/j.tibtech.2014.04.005","article-title":"Non-invasive wearable electrochemical sensors: A review","volume":"32","author":"Bandodkar","year":"2014","journal-title":"Trends Biotechnol."},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"11013","DOI":"10.3390\/s120811013","article-title":"Fully Integrated Biochip Platforms for Advanced Healthcare","volume":"12","author":"Carrara","year":"2012","journal-title":"Sensors"},{"key":"ref_3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"7","DOI":"10.1038\/nbt927","article-title":"The use of nanocrystals in biological detection","volume":"22","author":"Alivisatos","year":"2004","journal-title":"Nat.
