A homography that is robust against spatio-temporally induced noise can be estimated by intervals, using feature points extracted during a predetermined time interval. The feature point with the largest blob response in each quantized location bin, a representative feature point, is used for matching a pair of video sequences. After matching representative feature points from each camera, the homography for the interval is estimated by random sample consensus (RANSAC) on the matched representative feature points, with their chances of being sampled proportional to their numbers of occurrences in the interval. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the per-frame method by investigating alignment distortion and stitching scores for daytime and noisy video sequence pairs. It is shown that alignment distortion in overlapping regions is reduced and the stitching score is improved by the proposed method. The proposed method can be used for panoramic video stitching with static video cameras and for panoramic image stitching with less alignment distortion.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20010092","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,23]],"date-time":"2019-12-23T03:15:01Z","timestamp":1577070901000},"page":"92","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Multi-Frame Based Homography Estimation for Video Stitching in Static Camera Environments"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"given":"Keon-woo","family":"Park","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The Information Technology & Mobile Communications Biz., Samsung Electronics, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do 16677, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yoo-Jeong","family":"Shim","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Korea Aerospace University, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do 10540, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3136-2819","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Myeong-jin","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Korea Aerospace University, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do 10540, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Heejune","family":"Ahn","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Dept of Electrical and Information Engineering, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Seoul 01811, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,12,22]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"87","DOI":"10.1109\/MMUL.2018.011921238","article-title":"360-degree virtual-reality cameras for the masses","volume":"25","author":"Tan","year":"2018","journal-title":"IEEE MultiMedia"},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"51","DOI":"10.1109\/MMUL.2018.2879592","article-title":"Multipoint cooperative transmission for virtual reality in 5G new radio","volume":"26","author":"Yan","year":"2019","journal-title":"IEEE MultiMedia"},{"key":"ref_3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"198:1","DOI":"10.1145\/2980179.2980257","article-title":"Jump: Virtual reality video","volume":"35","author":"Anderson","year":"2016","journal-title":"ACM Trans.
