We propose an inexpensive, lighter, safer, and smaller radar system than military-grade radar systems while keeping reasonable capability for use in monitoring public places. The paper details the iterative process on the system design and improvements with experiments to realize the system used for surveillance. The experiments show the practical use of the system and configuration for a better understanding of using the system. Cyber-physical systems for outdoor environments can benefit from the system as a sensor for sensing objects as well as monitoring.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20082215","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,15]],"date-time":"2020-04-15T04:01:46Z","timestamp":1586923306000},"page":"2215","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Accessible Real-Time Surveillance Radar System for Object Detection"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"given":"Seongha","family":"Park","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Mathematics and Computer Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL 14003, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yongho","family":"Kim","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mathematics and Computer Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL 14003, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7544-6945","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Kyuhwan","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion, Daejeon 300010, Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Anthony H.","family":"Smith","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer and Information Technology, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 15701, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"James E.","family":"Dietz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer and Information Technology, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 15701, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Eric T.","family":"Matson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer and Information Technology, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 15701, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,14]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"Michael, S.S., and Michael, D.S.
