This is despite the fact that they are highly attenuating to ultrasonic signals due to scattering and viscoelastic effects. The experiments used a combination of piezocomposite transducers and pulse compression processing. This combination allowed signal-to-noise levels to be enhanced so that signals reflected from the surface of an insulated and cladded steel pipe could be obtained.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20082285","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,21]],"date-time":"2020-04-21T04:49:38Z","timestamp":1587444578000},"page":"2285","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":18,"title":["Ultrasonic Propagation in Highly Attenuating Insulation Materials"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1121-531X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"David A.","family":"Hutchins","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9641-378X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Richard L.","family":"Watson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8827-2390","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lee A.J.","family":"Davis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK"}]},{"given":"Lolu","family":"Akanji","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK"}]},{"given":"Duncan R.","family":"Billson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Engineering, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4094-7621","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Pietro","family":"Burrascano","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Engineering, University of Perugia, Polo Scientifico Didattico di Terni, Via di Pentima 4, 05100 Terni, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7283-2004","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Stefano","family":"Laureti","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Informatics, Modelling, Electronics and Systems Engineering, University of Calabria, Via Pietro Bucci, 87036 Arcavacata, Rende (CS), Italy"}]},{"given":"Marco","family":"Ricci","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Informatics, Modelling, Electronics and Systems Engineering, University of Calabria, Via Pietro Bucci, 87036 Arcavacata, Rende (CS), Italy"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,17]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"(2019, October 20).
