The corresponding calculation methods and formulation are proposed by incorporating the monostatic radar cross section (RCS) concept with external disturbances. By introducing the phase characteristics into the ARCS concept, the coherent problems can be accurately solved. Through analyzing the external disturbance and the radar waves by employing the finite element method, the coherent and the incoherent characteristics of the external disturbance can be simulated in complex structures. Numerical examples and an experiment are carried out to further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ARCS concept. The results demonstrate that the proposed ARCS concept obtains better universality compared with the existing incoherent multi-radiator formulation. Meanwhile, the ARCS can be identical with the solution which is obtained by the single radar wave. Compared with the existing incoherent methods for external disturbances calculations, the proposed ARCS concept is more rational. Through the experiment, the effectiveness of the calculation method and formulation is further demonstrated and validated.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20123371","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,6,15]],"date-time":"2020-06-15T05:56:27Z","timestamp":1592200587000},"page":"3371","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["ARCS: Active Radar Cross Section for Multi-Radiator Problems in Complex EM Environments"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"given":"Liqiang","family":"Niu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yongjun","family":"Xie","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9311-8045","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Peiyu","family":"Wu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0116-1821","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Chungang","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,6,14]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"28450","DOI":"10.1109\/ACCESS.2020.2972365","article-title":"A Novel PE\/FDTD Hybrid Model for Predicting Echo Signals of Radar Targets in Large-Scale Complex Environments","volume":"8","author":"Deng","year":"2020","journal-title":"IEEE Access."},{"key":"ref_2","first-page":"1","article-title":"Modeling and analyzing interference signal in a complex electromagnetic environment","volume":"4","author":"Liu","year":"2016","journal-title":"Eur.
