The unit is compact enough to fit conveniently underneath the current illumination tank of the Dartmouth microwave breast imaging system. The system includes 16 channels that can both transmit and receive and it operates from 500 MHz to 2.5 GHz while measuring signals down to \u2212140 dBm. As is the case with multichannel systems, cross-channel leakage is an important specification and must be lower than the noise floors for each receiver. This design exploits the isolation inherent when the individual receivers for each channel are physically separate; however, these challenging specifications require more involved signal isolation techniques at both the system design level and the individual, shielded component level. We describe the isolation design techniques for the critical system elements and demonstrate specification compliance at both the component and system level.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20185436","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,9,22]],"date-time":"2020-09-22T09:40:56Z","timestamp":1600767656000},"page":"5436","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":15,"title":["Low Cost, High Performance, 16-Channel Microwave Measurement System for Tomographic Applications"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3852-5203","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Paul","family":"Meaney","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755, USA"}]},{"given":"Alexander","family":"Hartov","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755, USA"}]},{"given":"Timothy","family":"Raynolds","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755, USA"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4716-6767","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Cynthia","family":"Davis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"GE Global Research, Niskayuna, NY 12309, USA"}]},{"given":"Sebastian","family":"Richter","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"German Federal Ministry of Defense, 2E1202 Hamburg, Germany"}]},{"given":"Florian","family":"Schoenberger","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"German Federal Ministry of Defense, 2E1202 Hamburg, Germany"}]},{"given":"Shireen","family":"Geimer","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755, USA"}]},{"given":"Keith","family":"Paulsen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755, USA"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,9,22]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"1200","DOI":"10.1109\/TBME.2008.2011914","article-title":"An improved technique to predict the time-of-arrival of a tumor response in radar-based breast imaging","volume":"56","author":"Kurrant","year":"2009","journal-title":"IEEE T Bio-Med.
