The purposes of this paper are to: (1) discuss the major barriers in clinical practice and available wearable sensing technology; (2) propose benchmarks for wearable device systems that would make it feasible to implement them in clinical practice across the world and (3) evaluate a current wearable device system against the benchmarks as an example. If we can overcome the barriers and achieve the benchmarks collectively, the field of rehabilitation will move forward towards better movement interventions that produce improved function not just in the clinic or lab, but out in peoples\u2019 homes and communities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s20205744","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,10,14]],"date-time":"2020-10-14T21:24:39Z","timestamp":1602710679000},"page":"5744","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":97,"title":["Implementation of Wearable Sensing Technology for Movement: Pushing Forward into the Routine Physical Rehabilitation Care Field"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"20","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7120-0136","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Catherine E.","family":"Lang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Program in Physical Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"},{"name":"Program in Occupational Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"},{"name":"Department of Neurology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Jessica","family":"Barth","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Program in Physical Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Carey L.","family":"Holleran","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Program in Physical Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"},{"name":"Department of Neurology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8363-644X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jeff D.","family":"Konrad","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Program in Physical Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Marghuretta D.","family":"Bland","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Program in Physical Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"},{"name":"Program in Occupational Therapy, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"},{"name":"Department of Neurology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,10,10]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"WHO (2002).
