Typically, the particles to be investigated are suspended in a liquid solvent. An analysis of the particular conditions required to perform a light scattering experiment on particles in air is presented in detail, together with a simple experimental setup and the data processing procedure. The results reveal that such an experiment is possible and using the setup and the procedure, both simplified to extreme, enables the design of an advanced sensor for particles and fumes that can output the average size of the particles in air.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s21155115","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,28]],"date-time":"2021-07-28T21:21:04Z","timestamp":1627507264000},"page":"5115","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":13,"title":["An Advanced Sensor for Particles in Gases Using Dynamic Light Scattering in Air as Solvent"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"21","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8074-9107","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Dan","family":"Chicea","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Complex Physical Systems, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Dr. Ion Ratiu Str., No. 5-7, 550012 Sibiu, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Cristian","family":"Leca","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Complex Physical Systems, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Dr. Ion Ratiu Str., No. 5-7, 550012 Sibiu, Romania"},{"name":"Continental Automotive Systems Srl, Salzburg Str. 8, 550018 Sibiu, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sorin","family":"Olaru","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Complex Physical Systems, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Dr. Ion Ratiu Str., No. 5-7, 550012 Sibiu, Romania"},{"name":"Continental Automotive Systems Srl, Salzburg Str. 8, 550018 Sibiu, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Liana Maria","family":"Chicea","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Complex Physical Systems, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Dr. Ion Ratiu Str., No. 5-7, 550012 Sibiu, Romania"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,28]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","unstructured":"Livio, L.
