Most wireless system proposals do not fulfill the stringent requirements of Factory Automation use cases. The harsh propagation features of industrial environments usually require time retransmission techniques to guarantee link reliability. At the same time, retransmissions compromise latency. IEEE 802.11be, the upcoming WLAN standard, is being considered for Factory Automation (FA) communications. 802.11be addresses specifically latency and reliability difficulties, typical in the previous 802.11 standards. This paper evaluates different channel coding techniques potentially applicable in IEEE 802.11be. The methods suggested here are the following: WLAN LDPC, WLAN Convolutional Codes (CC), New Radio (NR) Polar, and Long Term Evolution (LTE)-based Turbo Codes. The tests consider an IEEE 802.11be prototype under the Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel and industrial channel models. The results suggest that the best performing codes in factory automation cases are the WLAN LDPCs and New Radio Polar Codes.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s21217209","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,11,1]],"date-time":"2021-11-01T22:24:22Z","timestamp":1635805462000},"page":"7209","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Comparison between Different Channel Coding Techniques for IEEE 802.11be within Factory Automation Scenarios"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"21","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8023-1973","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lorenzo","family":"Fanari","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0424-3857","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Eneko","family":"Iradier","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1166-0568","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"I\u00f1igo","family":"Bilbao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0151-1537","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Rufino","family":"Cabrera","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0309-3401","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jon","family":"Montalban","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5188-8412","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Pablo","family":"Angueira","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Communication Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV\/EHU), 48013 Bilbao, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,10,29]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"2488","DOI":"10.1109\/COMST.2019.2897800","article-title":"Enabling Technologies for Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications: From PHY and MAC Layer Perspectives","volume":"21","author":"Sutton","year":"2019","journal-title":"IEEE Commun.
