The aim of this research was to gain insight into students\u2019 literacy and confidence in learning sports science with new wearable technologies, specifically a novel program known as STEMfit. Methods: A three-phase design was carried out, with 36 students participating and exposed to wearable devices and associated software. This was to determine whether the technology hardware (phase one) and associated software (phase two) were used in a positive way that demonstrated user confidence. Results: Hardware included choosing a scalable wearable device that worked in conjunction with familiar and readily available software (Microsoft Excel) that extracted data through VBA coding. This allowed for students to experience and provide survey feedback on the usability and confidence gained when interacting with the STEMfit program. Outcomes indicated strong acceptance of the program, with high levels of motivation, resulting in a positive uptake of wearable technology as a teaching tool by students. The initial finding of this study offers an opportunity to further test the STEMfit program on other student cohorts as well as testing the scalability of the system into other year groups at the university level.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s22041675","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,2,21]],"date-time":"2022-02-21T20:48:41Z","timestamp":1645476521000},"page":"1675","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Translational Applications of Wearable Sensors in Education: Implementation and Efficacy"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"22","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5471-4162","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Brendon","family":"Ferrier","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Applied Sciences, Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh EH11 4BN, UK"},{"name":"Physiolytics Laboratory, School of Psychological and Clinical Sciences, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT 0909, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5571-644X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jim","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Physiolytics Laboratory, School of Psychological and Clinical Sciences, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT 0909, Australia"},{"name":"SABEL Labs, College of Health and Human Sciences, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT 0909, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2104-5385","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Alex","family":"Mbuli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Applied Sciences, Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh EH11 4BN, UK"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Daniel A.","family":"James","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Physiolytics Laboratory, School of Psychological and Clinical Sciences, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT 0909, Australia"},{"name":"SABEL Labs, College of Health and Human Sciences, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT 0909, Australia"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,2,21]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","first-page":"1","article-title":"A wearable motion capture device able to detect dynamic motion of human limbs","volume":"11","author":"Liu","year":"2020","journal-title":"Nat.
