The sensor was fabricated using a printable porous conductive composite composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and carbon black (CB). The utilization of a deep eutectic solvent (DES) in the ink formulation induced a phase segregation between the CB and PDMS and led to a porous structure inside the printed films after being vapored. This simple and spontaneously formed conductive architecture provided superior directional bend-sensing characteristics compared to conventional random composites. The resulting flexible bending sensors displayed high bidirectional sensitivity (gauge factor of 45.6 under compressive bending and 35.2 under tensile bending), negligible hysteresis, good linearity (>0.99), and excellent bending durability (over 10,000 cycles). The multifunctional applications of these sensors, including human motion detection, object-shape monitoring, and robotic perceptions, are demonstrated as a proof-of-concept.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s23115041","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,5,25]],"date-time":"2023-05-25T02:30:06Z","timestamp":1684981806000},"page":"5041","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":18,"title":["Printed Directional Bending Sensor with High Sensitivity and Low Hysteresis for Human Motion Detection and Soft Robotic Perception"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"23","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9620-4897","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yi-Fei","family":"Wang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]},{"given":"Ayako","family":"Yoshida","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-6976-2749","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yasunori","family":"Takeda","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]},{"given":"Tomohito","family":"Sekine","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]},{"given":"Daisuke","family":"Kumaki","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]},{"given":"Shizuo","family":"Tokito","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Research Center for Organic Electronics (ROEL), Yamagata University, 4-3-16, Jonan, Yonezawa 992-8510, Yamagata, Japan"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,5,24]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"4338","DOI":"10.1002\/adma.201504244","article-title":"Flexible and stretchable physical sensor integrated platforms for wearable human-activity monitoring and personal healthcare","volume":"28","author":"Trung","year":"2016","journal-title":"Adv.
