The reason behind this is its simple mathematical definition, which allows for the calculation of lead fields with negligible computational cost, for example, for iterative approaches. Nevertheless, the literature shows contradictory formulations for the electrical solution of this head model. In this work, we study several different definitions for the electrical lead field of a four concentric spheres conduction model, finding that their results are contradictory. A thorough exploration of the mathematics used to build these formulations, provided in the original works, allowed for the identification of errors in some of the formulae, which proved to be the reason for the discrepancies. Moreover, this mathematical review revealed the iterative nature of some of these formulations, which allowed us to develop a formulation to solve the lead field in a head model built from an arbitrary number of concentric, homogeneous, and isotropic spheres.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s23198136","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,28]],"date-time":"2023-09-28T07:50:26Z","timestamp":1695887426000},"page":"8136","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["One Definition to Join Them All: The N-Spherical Solution for the EEG Lead Field"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"23","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1007-900X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ricardo","family":"Bru\u00f1a","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Center for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), 28040 Madrid, Spain"},{"name":"Department of Radiology, Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), IdISSC, 28040 Madrid, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7748-6454","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Giorgio","family":"Fuggetta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Psychology, University of Roehampton, London SW15 4JD, UK"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5965-164X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ernesto","family":"Pereda","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Center for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), 28040 Madrid, Spain"},{"name":"Department of Industrial Engineering, Institute of Neuroscience & Institute of Biomedical Technology, Universidad de La Laguna, 38200 Tenerife, Spain"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,9,28]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"1225","DOI":"10.1063\/1.1702037","article-title":"Electric Potential Produced by Two Point Current Sources in a Homogeneous Conducting Sphere","volume":"23","author":"Frank","year":"1952","journal-title":"J.
