More specifically, we consider signal propagation when three different sub-gigahertz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) bands, i.e., 169 MHz, 434 MHz, and 868 MHz, are used. The main focus of the paper is to evaluate the path loss (PL), i.e., the power loss that a propagation radio wave would experience when communication occurs between a sail boat and a buoy. We describe the measurement results obtained performing three different radio power measurement campaigns, at the three different aforementioned ISM sub-gigahertz bands. We also want to correlate the radio propagation quality with the weather conditions present in the measurement areas. The obtained results show that higher distances are achieved by transmitting at lower frequencies, i.e., 169 MHz, and, on average, the propagation is directly dependent from the dew point index.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s24082582","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,4,18]],"date-time":"2024-04-18T06:21:12Z","timestamp":1713421272000},"page":"2582","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Sub-Gigahertz Path Loss Measurement Campaign in Marine Environment: A Case Study"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"24","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0918-6852","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Marco","family":"De Piante","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8988-222X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Michele","family":"Midrio","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7546-6268","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Roberto","family":"Rinaldo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3206-2719","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ivan","family":"Scagnetto","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mathematics, Informatics and Physics, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9278-7178","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ruben","family":"Specogna","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]},{"given":"Francesco","family":"Trevisan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Udine, via delle Scienze 206, I-33100 Udine, Italy"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,4,18]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Xu, G., Shi, Y., Sun, X., and Shen, W.
