The tuning forks are highly sensitive and stable, with low power consumption and cost. The selective detection is based on the specific reaction of the polymer with ozone. With a mass detection limit of ~2 pg\/mm2 and response time of 1 second, the sensor coated with a polymer sensing material can detect ppb-level ozone in air. The sensor is integrated into a miniaturized wearable device containing a detection circuit, filtration, battery and wireless communication chip, which is ideal for personal and microenvironmental chemical exposure monitoring.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/s90705655","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,16]],"date-time":"2009-07-16T02:57:24Z","timestamp":1247713044000},"page":"5655-5663","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":24,"title":["Real-Time Ozone Detection Based on a Microfabricated Quartz Crystal Tuning Fork Sensor"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"Rui","family":"Wang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"},{"name":"Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Francis","family":"Tsow","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"},{"name":"Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Xuezhi","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jhih-Hong","family":"Peng","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Erica S.","family":"Forzani","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"},{"name":"Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yongsheng","family":"Chen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"John C.","family":"Crittenden","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Hugo","family":"Destaillats","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"},{"name":"Indoor Environment Department, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA 94720, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Nongjian","family":"Tao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"},{"name":"Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 85287-5801 USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,15]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"386","DOI":"10.1016\/S0140-6736(02)07597-9","article-title":"Asthma in exercising children exposed to ozone: a cohort study","volume":"359","author":"McConnell","year":"2002","journal-title":"Lancet"},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"4421","DOI":"10.1021\/es052198z","article-title":"Indoor secondary pollutants from household product emissions in the presence of ozone: a bench-scale chamber study","volume":"40","author":"Destaillats","year":"2006","journal-title":"Environ.
