First, the motion pattern of the single-loop mechanism is analyzed utilizing screw theory. According to the structural symmetries, the cylindrical deployable mechanisms are constructed through the linear pattern combination and circular pattern combination of the single-loop mechanisms. After the geometrical analysis and interference condition analysis, the axial, circumferential and area magnification ratios are defined and, furthermore, applied to the parameter optimization of the deployable mechanisms, forming an example surface. Finally, a simplified 1-DOF single-loop mechanism is derived from the proposed 2-DOF mechanism, which is used to construct 1-DOF cylindrical deployable mechanisms with singular free workspaces.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/sym13071255","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,13]],"date-time":"2021-07-13T22:25:31Z","timestamp":1626215131000},"page":"1255","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["A Novel Single-Loop Mechanism and the Associated Cylindrical Deployable Mechanisms"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"13","author":[{"given":"Long","family":"Huang","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410114, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Bei","family":"Liu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410114, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Lairong","family":"Yin","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410114, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jinhang","family":"Wang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410114, China"},{"name":"Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing Technology for High-Performance Mechanical Equipment, Changsha University of Science and Technology, Changsha 410114, China"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,13]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"103","DOI":"10.1016\/0094-5765(96)00009-4","article-title":"A new concept for solid surface deployable antennas","volume":"38","author":"Guest","year":"1996","journal-title":"Acta Astronaut."},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"139","DOI":"10.1061\/(ASCE)0893-1321(2000)13:4(139)","article-title":"Deployable structure of curved profile for space antennas","volume":"13","author":"You","year":"2000","journal-title":"J.
