While in the non-perturbative case the trace anomaly is the response of the effective action to a Weyl transformation, the definition in a perturbative approach is more involved. In the latter case, we use a specific formula proposed by M.Duff, of which we present a physical interpretation. The main body of the paper consists in deriving trace anomalies with the above formula and comparing them with the corresponding non-perturbative results. We show that they coincide and stress the basic role of diffeomorphism invariance for the validity of the approach.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/sym13071292","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,18]],"date-time":"2021-07-18T21:18:52Z","timestamp":1626643132000},"page":"1292","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Perturbative and Non-Pertrubative Trace Anomalies"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"13","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7103-5337","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Loriano","family":"Bonora","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Via Bonomea 265, 34136 Trieste, Italy"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,18]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"173","DOI":"10.1007\/BF02748300","article-title":"Trace Anomalies in Dimensional Regularization","volume":"23A","author":"Capper","year":"1974","journal-title":"Nuovo Cim."},{"key":"ref_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"361","DOI":"10.1016\/0375-9601(75)90030-4","article-title":"Conformal anomalies and the renormalizability problem in quantum gravity","volume":"53","author":"Capper","year":"1975","journal-title":"Phys.
