IPT wireless charging technology employs high-power inductive energy transfer between the components embedded into streets and the receiving equipment mounted below the vehicle. When the vehicle moves over the charging point, the contactless charging process is initiated between the components and the vehicle. In this work, the role of power converter topologies in IPT systems are studied for electric vehicle (EV) charging applications. Further, the predominant topologies are compared and analyzed in detail. The contingency in misalignment, loading and frequency shift are discussed for various converter topologies. The tolerance in misalignment poses serious challenges for wireless chargers in EVs. Therefore, there is currently a need to design a symmetric IPT system with multiple decoupled receiving coils. The significance of power inverter topologies for achieving resonance, as well as the generation of high-frequency supply, has been studied in detail. Experimental waveforms that are related to the explanations in this work are provided to substantiate the advantages regarding the converters.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/sym14030508","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,2]],"date-time":"2022-03-02T22:53:56Z","timestamp":1646261636000},"page":"508","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Role of Power Converters in Inductive Power Transfer System for Public Transport\u2014A Comprehensive Review"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"14","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5239-3091","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Sooraj","family":"Varikkottil","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Tata Elxsi, Trivandrum 695581, India"}]},{"given":"Febin Daya John","family":"Lionel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Electric Vehicles Incubation, Testing and Research Center, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai 600127, India"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7112-0689","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mohan Krishna","family":"Srinivasan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University, Bangalore 562106, India"}]},{"given":"Sheldon","family":"Williamson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering, Ontario Tech University, Oshawa, ON L1H 7K4, Canada"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5672-7055","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ramani","family":"Kannan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Seri Iskandar 32610, Malaysia"}]},{"given":"Lila Iznita","family":"Izhar","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Seri Iskandar 32610, Malaysia"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,3,2]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"22","DOI":"10.1109\/MPEL.2016.2583839","article-title":"Inductive Power Transfer for Electric Vehicle Charging: Technical Challenges and Tradeoffs","volume":"3","author":"Bosshard","year":"2016","journal-title":"IEEE Power Electron.
