Hitherto, most attention has been on network effects and demand-side economies of scale, on the role of platforms in lowering transaction costs, and on the importance of big data. More specifically, the research question addressed in this paper is how economies of scope, driven by the demand side, contribute to the strength of successful Big Tech corporations. The answer is related to two aspects: one is concerned with bundling of services and products, and the other with the acquisition and processing of data on users and their activities using digital services and applications.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.3390\/systems10060246","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,8]],"date-time":"2022-12-08T04:05:29Z","timestamp":1670472329000},"page":"246","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/mdpi_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":7,"title":["Demand-Side Economies of Scope in Big Tech Business Modelling and Strategy"],"prefix":"10.3390","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Anders","family":"Henten","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Communication, Media and Information technologies, Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University, 2450 Copenhagen, Denmark"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Iwona","family":"Windekilde","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), 7034 Trondheim, Norway"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"1968","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,8]]},"reference":[{"key":"ref_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"141","DOI":"10.1002\/smj.2596","article-title":"Networks platforms and strategy: Emerging views and next steps","volume":"38","author":"McIntyre","year":"2017","journal-title":"Strateg.
